Using VPN on PS4 and PS5 – How?

Using VPN on Playstation has been a challenge for most of the gamers, especially Sony’s PS4 and PS5. Since Sony does not allow its gamers to use VPN apps on its platform.

But there are some ways to unofficially use VPN on PS4 and PS5 to get early access to games, and to improve laggy online connections and more.

so how can we connect VPN?

  • Setting Up VPN via Wi-Fi Router: Since all the connectios are from the router, it will be the first device that we can use VPN on. Most of the router support VPN connection to you can just manually put your details in the router settings. You might be asked with some details like Service Name, Server address, Account name/email, Password, Key for encryption.

  • Setting Up smart DNS on your PSes: If using VPN does not work for you, there can eb other way by changing the location on your device which does not support VPN. Smart DNS is easy to setup but the thing is not all the VPN providers support this facility. It is not easy and slick as VPN, it might not allow to change the location, might not encrypt of data etc. The good news is that ExpressVPN, Surfshark and NordVPN all offer the functionality. Once you receive Smart DNS address from the provider you can process following steps.
  • For PS4

Head to the Settings menu.
Select Network.
Select Set Up Internet Connection and select either LAN or Wi-Fi depending on which you use.
Select Custom.
Set IP address to Auto.
Set DCHP Host to Do Not Specify.
Set DNS to Manual, and input the Smart DNS your VPN provided you with.
Set MUT Settings to Auto.
Set Proxy Server to Do Not Use.
Select Test Internet Connection to verify your settings.

  • PS5

Head to the Settings menu.
Select Network.
Select Settings.
Select ‘Set up Internet Connection’ and select either LAN or Wi-Fi depending on which you use.
Highlight your connection and press the Options button to bring up the options menu.
Select Advanced Settings.
Set IP address to Auto.
Set DCHP Host to Do Not Specify.
On the DNS settings section, select Manual.
Input the Smart DNS you got from your VPN provider, and hit Next.
Set MUT to Auto.
Set Proxy Server to Do Not Use.
Select Test Internet Connection to verify your settings.

  • By setting up VPN with your Windows or MAC:  You can also use your PC by turning it into a virtual router. You need both Wi-Fi and Ethernet port and you also need to take VPN details to loginso make sure to signup with your feasible option. After connecting VPN in your computer there are following setps to be taken,
    • For PC
      • Open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and select Change Adapter Settings on the left-hand side of the window.
      • Right-click on your VPN connection and click Properties.
      • Open the Sharing tab and make sure ‘Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection’ is selected.
      • Select Home Networking Connection and select your internet connection from the drop-down menu.
      • On your PS4, go to Settings > Network Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Use a LAN Cable and select the Easy connection method. On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection. This will automatically scan and set up your Ethernet connection.
      • Select “Do Not Use a Proxy Server” when prompted.
    • For MAC
      • Go to System Preferences > Sharing and select Internet Sharing from the list on the left-hand side.
      • From the ‘Share your connection from’ drop-down menu, select Wi-Fi.
      • From the ‘To computers using’ list, make sure Ethernet is ticked.
      • Check the box to the left of Internet Sharing on the list to enable the sharing of your internet connection, and confirm the decision if prompted.
      • Open the VPN software on your Mac and connect to your chosen server.
      • On your PS4, go to Settings > Network Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Use a LAN Cable and select the Easy connection method. On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
